The pancreas is located deep in the abdomen. Part of the pancreas is sandwiched between the stomach and the spine. The other part is nestled in the curve of the duodenum (first part of the small intestine). It plays an important part in diabetes. The pancreas is the organ which produces insulin, one the main hormones that helps to regulate blood glucose levels.

Hi, this will help,

The pancreas produces insulin which is essential for breaking down blood sugar.

In Diabetes mellitus (which is of two types), the blood sugar level (or glucose level) is quite higher that normal. This might be because:

1. The amount of insulin made isn't enough for the body's needs, or

2. the body's cells resist it (lack of sensitivity to insulin)

Hence the functioning of pancreas is an important factor for Diabetes mellitus.
