Petroleum is a fossil fuel formed million years ago by the remains of marine organisms such as algae.
We get many things from petroleum like Petrol, wax, diesel, etc.

Answer:

Petroleum is formed by the burial of aquatic plants and animals below the seabed. The marine animals and plants died thousands of years ago and settle down in the bottom of the sea.In anaerobic condition microorganism decomposes this organic matter, due to high pressure and heat ,the dead remains of tiny plants and animals were slowly converted into petroleum. This is how petroleum is formed.
