In a pitcher plant leaves are modified to form a pitcher like structure with a lid on top. The lid can open and close the mouth of the pitcher. The hollow leaves of pitcher plant are filled with nectar to attract insects or other preys. Downwardly pointed hair are present inside the pitcher. The lid closes when an insect visits the pitcher to drink the nectar. the trapped insect gets entangled in the hair of the pitcher and decomposed by the digestive juices secreted in the pitcher.
