How is pinacol pinacolone rearrangement done in unsymmetrical diol system for example one OH is present on cyclopentane and other one on cyclobutane and these rings are connected together to each other by the carbon which is attached to OH in both the rings.

Pinacol- Pinacolone rearrangement is the process of converting 1,2 diol into compound of carbonyl in the organic chemistry.

During reaction, one of the -OH suffers with protonation and carbocation occurs. If both the groups of -OH are same then the  OH with more number of stable carbocation will participate in this organic reaction. This rearrangement results in formation of pinacolone from pinacol.

Answer:

In these kinds of arrangements and rearrangements the transverse and opposite procedures takes place. If we discuss about pinacol and pinacolone rearrangement. In this arrangement what is basically done is the 1 and 2 diol group which we have is converted into caronyl compound under dilute h2so4 which behaves as a acidic medium.
