The chemical formula for plaster of Paris (POP) is CaSO4. 1/2H2O whereas the chemical formula for gypsum is CaSO4.·2H2O. They differ in the amount of H2O. Gypsum has 2 molecules of water while POP has 1/2 molecule of water.
