The correct question is - " How is propanenitrile converted into propanal. Write the equation?? "

Propanenitrile can be converted into propanal by following reaction -

React propanenitrile with SnCl_{2} in presence of hydrochloric acid  ( HCl ) , propanal is formed .

CH_{3}−CH_{2} −C≡N + SnCl_{2} / HCl ⟶  CH_{3}−CH_{2}  −CHO

  • This reaction is known as Stephen reaction .
  • SnCl_{2} acts as a reducing agent .
