How is propene the second member of the alkene series?
Is it not ethene?

The alkene series cannot start with a single Carbon atom (-C=) . So meth-ene formation isn't possible. The next member Ethene is the first member of the series as it fulfil the requirement of atleast 2 carbon atoms (-C=C-)
