Quick lime prepared on a commercial scale by heating lime stone CaCo3 . Heat remove the carbon dioxide from lime stone and give CaO (quick lime) .when quick lime is added to water it form slaked lime

In chemical reaction, when Quick lime or burnt lime (calcium oxide) is a white crystalline solid and having alkaline nature.

Quick lime can be obtained from Calcium carbonate CaCO_{3} by heating it up to 600-degree C. It is also a reversible process.

When it is added to water (dihydrogen oxide), the following reaction takes place:

CaO(s)+H_{2}O\rightarrow Ca(OH)_2+energy

Slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) is formed with liberation of heat.

The process is a combination and exothermic reaction.
