Stomach requires an acidic pH for digestion of proteins. ... As soon as the food enters the small intestine, intestinal juice or succus entericus neutralizes the acidity of the food so that the pancreatic juice cam complete its action.

heya!!!
gastric juice in the stomach is a highly acidic liquid and contains  an enzyme called pepsin.then when food  enters the small intestine, the bile which enters there  makes the food alkaline to enable the pancreatic and intestinal enzymes to act.
