Rosie was a transgenic cow. It was considered different from a normal cow as it produced human protein enriched milk. The milk contained 'human alpha-lactalbumin' and was nutritionally a more balanced product for human babies than the normal cow milk.

Rosie was a hybrid cow. In 1997, first transgenic cow, named Rosie, with human alpha-lactalbumin gene was produced. The milk of transgenic cow contained about 2.4 grams of human protein per litre of milk and was found to be more nutritionally balanced for human babies than that of natural cow milk.
