Chromosomal sex is determined at the time of fertilization; a chromosome from the sperm cell, either X or Y, fuses with the X chromosome in the egg cell. Gonadal sex refers to the gonads, that is the testis or ovaries, depending on which genes are expressed.

Male gamete consists of X and Y chromosome while female gamete consists of both X and X chromosome. So when the X chromosome of male fuse with the X chromosome of female then their is a formation of girl child and when the Y chromosome of male fuses with the X chromosome of female then their is a formation of baby boy. So women are not responsible for the sex of the baby because she has both X chromosomes while males have one X and one Y chromosome.
