How is sex determined in humans:

Cells of human beings comprises of 23 pairs of chromosomes that are located in the nucleus. Out of these 46 chromosomes, 44 are the autosomes and the last two are sex chromosomes. Chromosomes are represented as X and Y. Females comprises of X chromosomes that are identical in size and structure, these are represented as XX chromosomes. In males sex chromosomes are different. They are represented as XY chromosomes. Each and every gamete contain only one sex chromosome. Sperms might contain X or Y chromosomes, but egg always contain X chromosome.

If the sperm is having X chromosome, and it fertilises a egg, the zygote would surely have two X chromosomes, represented as XX chromosomes, and it would develop into female child.

If the sperm carrying Y chromosome fertilises a egg, the zygote would have X and Y chromosomes, and it would develop into a male child.
