Small intestine is a long, tubular structure. Its inner wall is lined by epithelium which possess numerous finger-like projections called villi. These villi not only increase the surface area of absorption but also reach deep into the lumen of intestine for maximum absorption of digested food. Villi possess blood capillaries and lymph vessels( lacteals) for quick transport of absorbed food.
