The Solvay process or ammonia-soda process is the major industrial process for the production of sodium carbonate (soda ash). The suspended sodium hydrogen carbonate is removed from the carbonating tower and heated at 300°C to produce sodium carbonate.

2NaHCO3——–à Na2CO3+CO2+H2O

This CO2 is recycled back into the carbonating tower.

Na2Co3 + 10H2o --------->Na2Co3.H2o
