Sound is energy because it produces by sound emitting object which converts electrical pulses from to sound energy.For example-If we put a bits of paper on speaker it will starts popping which shows sound is an energy.

...Take a tin can and remove both ends to make a hollow cylinder ....Take a balloon and stretch it over the can.Wrap a rubber band around the balloon .Take a small piece of mirror and stick it on balloon.Take a laser light and let it fall on the mirror .After reflection the light spot is seen on the wall .Now shout directly into the open end of the can and observe the dancing lighting by this sound is produced at a distance travels through air and reaches our ears to produce a sensation of hearing in our ears
