the two main important source of sound in human beings is the voice box. Two ligaments are normally called Vocal Cords are stretched across the larynx in such a way that it exist a narrow slit between them for the passage of air . the forced air from the lungs through the slit makes the vocal cords to vibrate and produce sound.

muscle attached to the vocal cords may increase or decrease their pull-on ligaments. This makes the vocal cords to be tight or loose thick or thin. When the vocal cords are tight and thin, the voice of high frequency is produced. The loose and thick vocal cords produce a low frequency sound.

Answer:

The lung (the pump) must produce adequate airflow and air pressure to vibrate vocal folds (this air pressure is the fuel of the voice). The vocal folds (vocal cords) are a vibrating valve that chops up the airflow from the lungs into audible pulses that form the laryngeal soundsource.
