Sound travels in mechanical waves. A mechanical wave is a disturbance that moves and transports energy from one place to another through a medium. Insound, the disturbance is a vibrating object. ... This means that sound can travelthrough gases, liquids and solids.

Sound is generaly generated as a result of the vibration of objects.

These vibration are caused as a resultent of collition of atoms and this cause the motion of the sound as a wave with compresion and rarefraction.

Sound waves are mechanical waves which carries or move energy from one place to another via a medium which can be solid, liquid or gas.
