We can hear sound from any vibrating object. When the object starts vibrating, the particles of air starts moving. They move from low pressure to high pressure , this process is called contraction and then they move to high pressure to low pressure,this process is called rarefaction. This two processes continuously till the sound can't reaches to our ears. That's how the sound transmitted to our ears.
