Depends what you are measuring! Face-to-face, if possible can be the cheapest in terms of minimizing miscommunication if and only if an opportunity for clarification is included. Communication via text can be cheaper (and faster) because people often respond quickly. I can call our grandson and get no answer, then text him 5 seconds later and he responds. The cost of communication via technology may surface in terms of miscommunication as much is left to the receivers interpretation. Email can be a good way to follow-up a conversation or document, but can be resent anywhere once you push send and that can cost you!!! Mass communication can be cheaper than meeting in person especially when logistics are an issue, but are people listening?

I believe it depends on the outcome you desire, so choose the communication that best meets your needs because the cost of communication is measured in ways other than dollars. All communication benefits from people ensuring the intended message is the message received.
