Iris controls the amount of light entering the  eye.

The Iris automatically adjust the size of pupil according to the intensity of light received by eye.

If it  is day time , the iris contracts the pupil and reduces the amount of light entering.
If it is night, iris expands the pupil so that more light may enter the eye.
