Answer:

Here are some ways where we can prevent rusting :

1. Paint it - Paint the metal with any durable acrylic paint. Do not use Water-Soluable paints, since they will only worsen the rust. Rust will form underneath this type of paint.

2. Keep moisture at Bay - Avoid contact with water or moisture. We know that the water has chemical formula which corresponds to 2 parts Hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen. Hence oxygen is responsible for oxidation of iron and therefore forms rust.

3. Coat it with Oil - Use of oil or grease significantly reduces the chances of developing rust in iron. Basically, oil or grease form a protective layer over iron just as paint does and therefore prevent rust formation.

how is the body of a water cooler protected from rusting ?

The closed cell expanded polystyrene insulation protects the water cooler from breeding insects and bacteria. Rust being the biggest enemy of water coolers is effectively kept at bay by powder coating after pre paint metal treatment through a 7 tank hot phosphatising process.

What role does galvanisation play in it?

 \green{ANSWER - }

Galvanizing protects from rust in a number of ways:

It forms a barrier that prevents corrosive substances from reaching the underlying steel or iron. The zinc serves as a sacrificial anode so that even if the coating is scratched, the exposed steel will still be protected by the remaining zinc.
