The body wall consists of two cellular layers, an outer epidermis derived from ectoderm and an inner gastro dermis derived from endoderm. In between the outer epidermis and inner gastro dermis, a thin non-cellular layer of jelly-like substance called mesogloea is present. Both the epidermis and gastro dermis are composed of different kinds of cells, hence, they are described separately.

Dear Student,

● Body wall in coelenterates -

  • Body wall of coelenterates is diploblastic.
  • It is made of inner endoderm and outer ectoderm.
  • Two layers are divided by mesogloea.

◆ Characteristics of coelenterates -

  • Coelenterates are multicellular organisms.
  • Level of organisation is tissue level.
  • Canal system is absent in them.
  • They dont have second body cavity, the coelom.
  • Symmetry of body is radial/biradial in coelenterates.
  • Body wall of coelenterates is diploblastic.
  • Habitat is mostly aquatic.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
