INTRODUCTION:Hormones are the chemical substances secreted by endocrine glands directly into the blood.
Endocrine glands have no ducts -so they are called as ductless glands.
Hormones functions are ;
1)Acts on the cells of other organs and increase or decrease the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids.
2)They enhances to synthesize new proteins or make cells of the body to grow.
3)They may even act on other endocrine glands and control their function.
All endocrine glands are controlled by pituitary gland ,there
fore called as MASTER GLAND of the body.It also serve as a link between nervous system and endocrine system.
Some of the hormones secreted by pituitary gland are
-Growth hormone
-Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
-Prolactin
-Follicle stimulating hormone(FSH)
-Leutinizing hormone(LH)
-Oxytocin
-Vasopressin etc
Their deficiency leads to various diseases like diabetes,goitre etc
