Chemical control in animals is brought about by the release of chemical substances called hormones from endocrine glands. Endocrine glands are known as ductless glands as these glands do not have any ducts to transport hormones. The hormones, after production, are directly released into the blood stream. Thus , they reach everywhere even if the glands secreting them are located in particular places. As the blood carries hormones, the hormones reach the specific parts and do their main function . This process take some time and hence hormones travel slowly. However, their effects are long- lasting, unlike nerve impulses.

Brain controls and manages this process of harmones release and makes sure that it reaches its specific target point. Glands release harmones and they travel through blood and affect target cells continuously and slowly.
