Direction of magnetic field due to a current carrying wire is obtained by using Right hand thumb rule.Imagine that a current carrying conductor is held in your right hand such that the direction of thumb indicates the direction of current. Then, the direction in which the remaining fingers curl to hold the conductor gives the direction of magnetic field at the given point.
