A constant speed the distance travelled is proportional to time travelled and for a fixed distance the time taken is inversely proportional to the speed. is proportional to the square of the time travelling.

we know that :
speed = \frac{ distance}{time \: }

Time is directly proportional to the distance traveled
And also. ;
speed is also directly proportional to distance traveled

when the distance is constant
then speed is inversely proportional to time

example:
Let's suppose a car takes 1 hr to cover a distance of 20 kms. So the speed of the car is 20kms/hr.

If the same distance needs to be covered in 30 mins, the car has to go much faster than 20km/hr. Isn't that so ?

On the other hand, suppose the car could cover only 10 kms in 1 hr or otherwise it took 2 hrs to cover the same 20 kms, then we can say that the car would have run at comparatively lesser speed than the previous.

hope it helps you
