Endoplasmic Reticulum is important for membrane biogenesis because it helps in the formation of lipids ans steroids which helps in building the cell membrane

"Membrane biogenesis is the process of formation of plasma membrane"
and plasma membrane is composed of:
•lipids
•proteins

ER has ribosomes which releases proteins. Therefore, it plays an important role.
