The File tab is a section on the Office ribbon that gives you access to file functions. For example, from the File tab you can access the Open, Save, Close, Properties, and Recent file options.

So, it is different from other tabs.

Hope it helps you...

File tab:

Some of the information included into file tab are file name; file size; file location; file type; and access restriction which are not displayed in other tabs.

The main functions for any file can be performed in file tab. A tab is a collection of contextual tabs for a single object type.

In MS Office products, file tab on the tool bar (appears first on the tool bar) allows to access file functions like open, save, print, close, properties, etc. The other tabs are used to modify or format the data according to the requirement. In few Operating Systems, there will be options for closing the programs too.
