the flow of energy in a food chain takes place by the sun the sun gives energy to the producer that is grass the grass is eaten by small animals like frogs and then they are also eaten by secondary consumers that tastes Snakes and all ....

when a animal (primary consumer) eats a plant (producer) food energy is transferred from the plant to the aninmal. that animal primary consumer is eaten by the another animal secondary consumers and in turn that animal is eaten bya another with energy being transferred and used up at each step in the chain.
