A fuse is a metal or thin strip of metal which has property of low melting point which is inserted into an electric circuit as a protective device.
It is usually connected in series with the components it is protecting.
It protects the device from excess current.
The excess current is caused by short circuiting and overloading of the circuit.
When this occurs ,the fuse melts and breaks the circuit hence protecting the device.
