The war defined by Homer in the Iliad is different from the wars we see every day on our TV screens. For example, Homer describes the opponents introducing themselves earlier than in combat. In many cases, they discover records of friendship among their families, exchange gifts, and move directly to seek out other opponents- all very civilized and gentlemanly. Today, a person sitting in a single country has a far-off vehicle, a drone, flying over a battlefield. He selects his target, pushes a button, and erases his victim from existence, along with anybody else unfortunate sufficient to be in the vicinity.
