Ionic compounds dissociate to give ions in molten state because movement of ions take place in molten state. But in solid state ions does dissociate to give ions. We know movememt of ions conduct current ,so ionic compounds in molten state conduct current.

when the compound is solid there will be no free ions present in it only free ions conduct electricity if they are in molten state they contains free ions and there by conducts electricity
