☜☆☞ Saudi Arabia's monarchic succession is different from the traditional European style monarchy. I will attempt to explain it.
The first king of Saudi Arabia Abdulaziz Ibn Saud had 22 wives. Basically he married into every tribal clan in the arabian peninsula to establish legitimacy. He had atleast 45 sons, the number of daughters is unknown.
The succession follows the tribal bedouin culture with age being the most important criteria. An older brother/older half brother has the same respect and standing as the father in this culture.
1 King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud was the first King and after his death, his second son King Saud took power (Ibn Saud's first son died young). However even though King Saud was the oldest, his extravagant lifestyle and inability to counter the influence of Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt meant he was forced to abdicate the throne to his half brother King Faisal. This confirmed the rule that not just seniority but also capability was an important criterion.
