What I mean by 'in detail' is that each degree of latitude or longitude is divided into 60 smaller sections called minutes ( ' ). Every one of those little minutes is then divided into even smaller segments called seconds ( " ).
So, If you wanted to find say Miami, Florida, you could use the coordinates 25°N 80°W but then you would have to scan the map looking for the exactly spot of the city. You could use a more detailed set of coordinates 25° 46' N and 80° 12' W. This set of coordinates narrows the area down more and if seconds were added the location would be pinpointed.
