You can literally pinpoint any place on earth by using the latitude and longitude lines but in detail. [Global Position Systems (GPS) ]
What I mean by 'in detail' is that each degree of latitude or longitude is divided into 60 smaller sections called minutes. Every one of those little minutes is then divided into even smaller segments called seconds .
So, If you wanted to find say Miami, Florida, you could use the coordinates 25°N 80°W but then you would have to scan the map looking for the exactly spot of the city. You could use a more detailed set of coordinates 25° 46' N and 80° 12' W. This set of coordinates narrows the area down more and if seconds were added the location would be pinpointed.
