The rise in the last couple of years in independent media and journalism shows that people around the world want to keep both their governments and media sources accountable

Explanation:

  • The media accountability is a phrase which refers to the general (mostly Western) conviction that the mass media is answerable to the public-in other words that they are supposed to conduct themselves in certain ways that contribute to the public interest.
  • The media are often accused of violating professional standards, and therefore their acts need certain clarification. In a democratic context, the press plays an important role in disseminating information to the public, which informs the public well. To this end, the press collects news and disseminates it to the public from various sources. But the media can be cautiously criticized for behaving unfairly and biased by breaching the Professional Code of Ethics while gathering and publishing news. In an era of journalism that is powered by the market, the media are sensationalized in order to maximize profit and the reason is said to be commercialism.
  • Society also expects the press to be accountable to its people and press responsibility plays an important role in its actions. The obligations res as a mechanism through which press organizations can be requested or obliged to give their constituents an account.  A constituent is an individual, group, or organization whose goodwill is important for any media organization.
  • There are some flaws in the Indian media. Ideally, these should be dealt with and collectively corrected. However, if the media is incorrect, harsh measures can be expected.
  • It's time to have an introspection by the Indian media. Many people have started claiming the media are now careless and irresponsible, and need to get clad in them, not only those in authority but also ordinary people.
  • One of the defects is that the media often twist facts. A second defect concerns the issue of paid news that has become prominent of late. A third defect is that the media often portray non-issues as real issues, while the real issues are sidelined.
  • If the media prove incorrigible, harsh measures may be required. But in my opinion, that should be done only as a last resort and in extreme situations.
