during the sexual reproduction ,female gamites or egg cell fusses with male gamites  or sperm cell which are haploid to form zygote. the zygote is diploid which contain only 23 cromosoms in egg. it is the fusion of the sperm and egg which lead to an offspring with 46 cromosomes.
