the opening and closing of stomata is due to change in turgidity of guard cells. When turgidity increase within two guard cell flanking each stomatal pore, the thin outer wall bulge out resulting the crescent shape of inner wall and stomata open.
When turgidity decreases due to water loss, the inner wall come to its original shape , guard cells become flaccid and stomata close
