Epidermis, "epi" coming from the Greek meaning "over" or "upon", is the outermost layer of theskin. It forms thewaterproof, protective wrap over the body's surfacewhich also serves as a barrier to infection and ismade up of stratified squamous epithelium with an underlying basal lamina

The main skin cell that makes up the epidermis is called the keratinocyte, named this because it produces a tough protein called keratin. Keratin is also the protein from which nails and hair are formed. It gives skin much of its resistance to physical wear and tear and makes skin waterproof

outer surface of skin is waterproof as sweat glands secret oil on the skin through sweat pores.

tiya215: but sweat glands do not secrets it will be sebaceous glands
raksha12345: yes
