The percentage of oxygen is maintained at 21%(approx) as a matter of wonder for us that the amount of oxygen is at a constant level of 20.95% in earth's atmosphere even after this global warming stuff. We think that trees are everything we have to maintain this level. And yes trees are but not the greatest one. Amazon rain forest really produces oxygen higher than present demand. But the problem with is that most of this oxygen is trapped in this rain forest itself due to its marshy land and incredibly thick flora and fauna. Thank god to planktons specially the Diatoms which cater for 70% of oxygen demand not only when they are alive but also posthumously. These are found in south America and Greenland.

About one fourth of the photosynthesis is performed by diatoms on the earth. So if you are breathing, thank the Diatoms.
