The image is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of it i.e, the perpendicular distance of image from the mirror is equal to the perpendicular distance of object from the mirror.

the position of the object and image are related to each other by the formula 1/v+1/u=1/f
where
u is the object distance
v is the image distance
f is the focal length
so both the positions are dependent on each other
