The President is elected indirectly by electoral college which consist of elected members of both the houses of the Parliament and elected members of State Legislative Assemblies by single transferable vote.
The three situations are as follows:-
1 When the ruling party losses it's majority,he may dissolve the Lok Sabha or ask another party to prove it.
2 If a vote of No-Confidence is passed against the Council of Ministers and the minister does not resigns,he may dismiss the minister.
3 Appointment to a Price Minister in case if the present Prime Minister dies and the ruling party is not able to meet suddenly.
