Destarching occurs when part of a plant is "deprived of starch, as by translocation". It is also the process of eliminating starch reserves in a plant for experiments concerning photosynthesis. This is done by leaving the plant(s) in a dark place for a long period of time.

in this process, a leaf of a plant is covered with any dark sheet, then the leaf can't make food (starch) in the absence of sunlight. After about 3 days, the starch of the leaf gets exhausted which was made earlier in the presence of sunlight, this is what we say distarching.
