Western disturbances or cyclonic Storms originating from the mediterranean Sea cause moderate rainfall in Kashmir ,Punjab ,Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and snowfall in the upper reaches of the Himalayas. This causes cold waves in northern India. The rainfall ,though in a low amount,is very essential for the rabi or winter crops.
