when the earth faces the sun,it is day time on that part and when the earth is completely away from the sun,it causes night in that part. the earth is rotating constantly on its axis and this results in causing day and night

Rotation of the earth responsible for causing day and night:

The phenomenon of day and night is caused by the ‘rotation of the earth’ on its axis. It takes ‘24 hours or 23 hours and 56 minutes’ to finish one rotation. Daytime depends on the side of the earth that is faced towards the sun and vice versa.

The earth’s axis is tilted at an ‘angle of 23.5 degrees’. During the rotation, the northern side faces the sun in the summer; this is when ‘days are longer than nights’. Summer solstice or June solstice is when the northern hemisphere has the longest day and daytime decreases as day’s progress.

Similarly, winter solstice is when northern hemisphere has the shortest day or longest night and nights become shorter with progression. This process of rotation on the earth’s axis and earth’s position relative to the sun is what causes day and night.
