✧ Sex of child in humans is determined by the type of male haploid gamete that fuses with the female egg.

✧ The chromosome in the 23rd pair of a male gamete can be either X or Y. The female egg always has an X chromosome.

✧ So if the male gamete with the X chromosome fuses with the female egg, the child will be female.

✧ Similarly if the male gamete with the Y chromosome fuses with the female egg, the child will be male.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

Most of the human chromosomes have a maternal and paternal copy and we have 22 such pairs But one pair, called as the sex chromosome is odd in not always being a perfect pair. Women have a perfect pair of sex chromosomes, both called 'x'. But Men have a mismatched pair in which one is a normal sized 'x' while other is. short one called 'y'. So women are 'xx' and men are 'xy'. All children will inherit and 'x' chromosomes from their mother regardless of whether they are boys or girls. Thus, the sex of the children will be determined by what they inherit from their father. A child who inherit an 'x' chromosomes from her father will be an girl and one who inherit an 'y' chromosomes by father will be a boy.
