The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is elected immediately after the general election results are out and the new Lok Sabha is formed.

Usually, the Speaker is unanimously elected from the members of the party or alliance that has gained majority, though there may be some exceptions as well.

All the newly elected Lok Sabha members cast their votes to choose the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
