Standard time is the official local time of a particular region. It is determined based on the distance of Prime Meridian from the meridian going through that particular area.

It is considered as the fixed time for the places at same meridian. It is same for the entire country. However, places on the same longitude have different standard time.

For India standard meridian is 82 1/2⁰ E which passes through Mirzapur situated near Allahabad. Therefore, the entire country follows the local time of this longitude. This is Indian Standard Time.
