Standard time is the official local time of a particular region.

It is determined based on the distance of Prime Meridian from the meridian going through that particular area.

It is considered as the fixed time for the places at same meridian.

It is same for the entire country However, places on the same longitude have different standard time.

Greenwich Mean Time: The Greenwich Mean Time acts as the standard time for all the time zones in the world. It has a time difference of 0 and is located in Greenwich, England.

It is based on the distance of the Prime meridain.

The Prime meridian is an imaginary line.

For example,

Consider India and Brazil,

Time: 6 am in India and 9:30 in Brazil.

Time Difference:

  • India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of GMT.
  • Brazil is 3 hours behind GMT.
  • Brazil is 8 hours and 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time.

So, IF 6 am in India then its 9:30 pm in Brazil.

This is how the standard time of a place is determined.
