How is the system of decentralisation in India been reflected in India through the systems of rural and urban local self Government ?'We are thus a stilll long way from realising the ideal of Self Government.

Panchayat Raj signifies the rural local self government ie, ruling of rural area by people through their elected members. likewise the urban local self government means ruling of urban area by people through their elected members. Panchayat Raj and municipality formed by 73rd and 74th constitutional amendment 1992.
Mahatma Ghandhi noticed that development of India is within the people of villages. Power should decentralised that is it must vested in the hands of people. However Ambedkar feared about domination of higher caste in implementing Panchayat Raj. First Panchayat Raj was formed by Jawaharlal Nehru in Oct 02, 1959 at Nagaur, Rajasthan.
As and when people have problems such as road repairs, water stagnation in the streets, non functioning of street lights and construction of small water bodies recreation parks, etc. The local governments have the responsibility to attend these problems. There are legally mandated to discuss and give solutions to the problems of the people of that area and also represent the problem to the higher levels of the government such as state.

Grama Sabha was conducted in every village Panchayat of country during Republic Day (jan 26), May day (may 01), Independence day (Aug 15), Gandhi Jayanthi (Oct 02).
